A program that runs JavaScript outside the browser: on a server, on the command line and in scripts. Without it, JavaScript code would only work inside a web page. Thanks to Node.js one language is used for the site, the server side and developer programs. Tests with Jest, Vitest and QUnit are most often run in Node.js too, and the Vite bundler itself runs on it.
