Gemini CLI
Coding agents · Google Gemini CLI
Google’s open-source coding agent for the terminal on Gemini models, released in June 2025. It is built like Claude Code and Codex: it reads the project, edits files and runs commands; it takes project rules from GEMINI.md and connects outside systems through MCP. It links to IDEs through a VS Code companion extension and through ACP for JetBrains and Zed. Until June 18, 2026 anyone could use it free with a Google account; now the closed-source Antigravity CLI replaces it for individual users. Gemini CLI itself stays open source and works for companies on enterprise plans and for paid API keys.
