Relation of a group
Groups, moves and rules · a rule of the game
created · updated
A rule of the form “this chain of moves puts everything back in place”. In the game “step and lift” the first rule is x⁶ = 1: six steps in a row leave the token where it was. An equality of two chains is a rule too: u·v = v·u is written as u·v·u⁻¹·v⁻¹ = 1. How many rules are needed to define a group completely is the question of the relation gap.
