Race condition
Formal verification · a race
created · updated
A defect in which the result depends on which of two actions got there first. Each action works correctly on its own, but together they cause a loss or a mix-up of data. The classic case: a condition is checked once, and by the time of the action it has already changed. It is cured by rechecking at the moment of the action or by a shared lock.
